Whether you intend to wear an item of festive knitwear for charity on Friday 13th December or not, it’s hard to miss the fact that Christmas is now officially upon us (even if, like me, you haven’t quite finished picking up the autumn leaves!)
As Bernard reminded us on Sunday: on that first nativity in Bethlehem 2000 years ago the words of the prophet Isaiah were fulfilled and ‘unto us a son (was) born’. And the world has never been the same since!
If we are indeed His body here on earth, and God now reaches out ‘human to human’ as our Liberian brothers remind us, then what does it mean for you and I to be a counsellor and a prince of peace to those around us?
Perhaps these are the gifts that people need most in the busy-ness of the ‘business’ of Christmas? At our prayer meeting on Friday we shall pray that God will come in the lives of our friends and families as we celebrate and carol the birth of the new born King.
